Traffic Impact: Opening Day at the Del Mar Racetrack

Opening Day at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club's summer horse racing meet is this Friday, July 17^th. Big crowds and traffic impacts are expected, especially on Interstate 5 and downtown Del Mar. Gates open at 11:30 AM, so residents should plan ahead for traffic and allow extra time when traveling through the area. 

There are many organized events after the race on Friday, and to prepare for the busy night, Del Mar has ordered extra Sheriff's deputies and extended hours for the City's reinforcement officers. Additionally, Del Mar Plaza may be especially crowded.

To improve traffic circulation, parts of northbound Camino Del Mar in front of the Del Mar Plaza and 15th Street adjoining L'Auberge Del Mar will be closed to parking and repurposed as rideshare zones.

The race meet is scheduled to run from July 17^th through September 7^th. The Racetrack is closed on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays, except the closing day September 7^th.
